How it got out of hand.
The range officer gave us three rules: wear the safety gear, keep everything pointed downrange, and do not believe anything with an ACME label. We agreed to all three, especially the first two.
Robert took the red launcher-shaped target prop while Sandy picked the pink-and-blue contraption with the confidence of somebody who already knew the crowd would be watching her lane. The targets stood still. The equipment did not look remotely sensible.
The day became a contest of concentration, laughter, and wildly oversized cartoon hardware. Nobody was hurt, the targets told the official story, and the range officer admitted that safety briefings are more memorable when Robert and Sandy are involved.
