The field notes
How it got out of hand.
The parade was going exactly as planned until the largest balloon in town decided it preferred the sky. It floated above Main Street, dragging its rope behind it and making every spectator an instant expert in balloon recovery.
Robert steered the red rescue truck through the parade while Sandy extended the ladder toward the drifting rope. The crowd kept cheering, the band kept playing, and the balloon kept pretending it had somewhere more important to be.
Sandy caught the line, Robert brought the truck to a stop, and the runaway balloon returned to the parade just in time for the grand finale. The official report credits teamwork, a very tall ladder, and refusing to let the celebration leave without us.
