The field notes
How it got out of hand.
Robert left the schedule behind and took the road that looked least interested in being paved. At the end of it was a red pickup, a patient horse, and a sunset doing all the showing off.
The assignment was to check the fence line. The actual mission became standing beside the truck, talking to the horse, and considering whether every country road should come with its own soundtrack.
Nothing exploded. Nobody needed a map. It was still one of the best adventures in the archive, proving that a quiet country day can be every bit as big as a stunt.
