The field notes
How it got out of hand.
Sandy said she wanted a little sunshine and a short drive. Then she found the turquoise buggy, took the wheel, and turned a simple beach day into a full coastal operation.
The plan included clean tires, a tidy passenger seat, and absolutely no sand in places sand should not be. The beach had other ideas. So did Sandy.
By sunset, the buggy was covered in evidence and Sandy had the kind of smile that makes a spotless vehicle seem wildly overrated. Robert learned an important rule: when Sandy says she has it, let her drive.
